What are the benefits of becoming a member?

There are two main types of benefits that members can expect:

  1. members can expect to individually benefit from the overall achievements and accomplishments for CASPI (such as our strive to set an Industry specific minimum wage, our commitment to ongoing training as part of renewing certifications and licenses, our aim to standardize PPE’s for Security Professionals etc.). These benefits shall apply to all Industry Professionals EQUALLY (members and nonmembers alike).
  2. Member exclusive benefits include: assistance with information and Professional advice, accreditation as member in good standing, access to resources such as legal advice and Insurance coverage, discounted products and services and more. Please refer to the membership application page for more details.

Do I have to qualify to become a member?

Yes and No. Even if you are not working within the Security Industry, we will still welcome your support. However, to refrain from potential conflicts of interests and irrelevant influences, we shall only accept members who legally reside and are eligible to work in Canada.

Can a Member be expelled?

An active member can only be expelled by a majority vote of CASPI’s Board of Directors; such a procedure would be extremely rare and would entail a hearing where such a member shall be offered every opportunity to influence the Boards’ decision. In any case where a member is expelled or suspended from CASPI, the remainder of his/her membership fees shall be reimbursed proportionately.

Why would one choose CASPI?

As a matter of fact we encourage candidates who seek to join any organization to research and thoroughly explore all existing organizations and associations before making their choice. Candidates should apply for membership with CASPI only after proper examination and only after compering and weighing all their options.

Is CASPI associated with ANY Security Company?

No. We would consider such an affiliation to be improper and unethical.

What key principles guide CASPI in its pursuit to promote itself and / or its goals?

CASPI is NOT interested to promote itself! It is very interested in improving the Security Industry and the overall status of Industry professionals, which is why we work hard to achieve our goals. The key principles that govern our decisions and actions are: Transparency, Integrity, Ethical conduct, Fairness, Determination, Compliance, Accountability and Honesty. We expect the same from our members.

What is the Basic structure of CASPI? Who makes decisions? How are they made?

In a nutshell, ALL active members are eligible to elect the Board of Directors (7 Directors) once every Five (5) years (or as may become necessary otherwise), the Board Of Directors appoints the Executive Committee (3+ members) and the other key individuals who fulfill a special role (e.g. President of the Board, Treasurer, Secretary etc.). Any member (in good standing) of CASPI can present his or her candidacy for any role or position by producing a signed letter of support for nomination, endorsed by a minimum of Fifty (50) active members in good standing. Individuals with Financial or Legal interests in Businesses related to the Security Industry MUST disclose al their interests, holdings and other relevant connections and relationships with such entities  prior to presenting their candidacy (and so must transparently update the Board on any changes relating to such interests / ties / holdings, in a prompt, detailed and accurate manner.

The Executive Committee answers to the Board of Directors (annually, or upon special subpoena by majority of Directors, or if requested by a member of the Committee), Executive decisions can be made by majority vote (2:1) or unanimously (3:0), in ANY case where one executive remains neutral in a majority vote (1:0) the decision at hand must be ratified / affirmed by a majority vote of Directors. In case of a regular majority vote (2:1) the executive in minority reserves the right to insist upon Board ratification (only while the executive committee is in session). Meticulous records are kept (by the Secretary) and periodic audits are initiated to ensure compliance.
